seeing red

Waldemar Januzczak on his Impressionism documentary, Impressionism: Painting and Revolution, claimed that the Impressionists saw the world in a new way. I’d say the Impressionists portrayed the world in a new way but the statement challenged me.

Seeing Red was my solution to seeing the world in a new way. Viewing the pieces thru filters eliminated the color of the filter from the artwork and revealed the piece in a new way and often reveals a hidden truth not initially perceivable.

Content supersedes appearance is a mantra of modern art.

A mechanical painting invites the viewer to confront the content of the piece rather than evaluate its painterly presentation. A halftone implies the image was photographed adding a sense that the image is an actual object, not a creation of the artist blurring the line between fantasy and documentation.
